ACP's Medical Technology
Therapeutic Modalities
The medical devices used in ACP’s programs are called "Therapeutic Modalities." These proven devices include Electrical Stimulation, Patterned Electrical Neuromuscular Stimulation (PENS), Therapeutic Ultrasound and Shortwave Diathermy. By decreasing pain, inflammation and edema, therapeutic modalities increase patient comfort and tolerance to treatment. This enables therapists to introduce earlier, more aggressive therapy interventions to help improve function and recovery. Therapeutic modalities also allow therapists to treat more complex conditions, decrease muscle disuse atrophy, enhance soft tissue healing through increased circulation, and improve neuromuscular control in patients with orthopedic and neurological diagnoses. With nearly three decades of device research and development, ACP’s patented modalities are referenced in over 100 research articles documenting superior efficacy and safety. They have also been used successfully in a variety of settings including long-term care, physical rehabilitation, orthopedics, outpatient facilities and elite athletics, where ACP has been the equipment of choice for over 100 professional, collegiate and Olympic sports teams.
- ACP’s therapeutic devices are FDA 510K registered and have been tested extensively among a broad patient population from elite athletes to aging adults.
- Device operational protocols are developed around evidence-based practice and are "condition-driven" for reproducible treatment results, ease-of-use and therapist efficiency – parameters are fully adjustable to address individual patient response.
- ACP’s therapeutic equipment features a number of patented and proprietary features including Delta T Temperature Dose Control and Patterned Electrical Neuromuscular Stimulation (PENS).
- Each modality is designed as a "stand-alone" unit to allow simultaneous treatment of multiple patients or concurrent therapy where medically appropriate.
- All device maintenance and calibration is included in ACP’s lease standard program, along with 72-hour equipment exchange when any servicing is required.
OmniVR™ - The World's First Virtual Rehabilitation System for Aging Adults

This easy-to-use technology improves exercise participation, repetition and duration by re-creating the patient's movements in a 3-D, real-time interactive experience. Research has shown that treatment outcomes generated by virtual reality rehabilitation can match or exceed those from real world activities and exercises. These benefits may result from the enhanced feedback, motivation and repetitions that occur among patients exercising in virtual reality.
- Easy-to-use, "one touch" operation.
- Special 3D camera recreates the patient's movements in a "real time" interactive experience, to enhance patient participation and improve motivation and outcomes.
- 6 Different "Skilled" Exercise Modes developed for lower-functioning patients: Seated Exercise, Wheelchair Propulsion and Control, Upper Extremity, Balance, Walking, and Cardio.
- Geriatric-friendly system does not require hand controllers, special mats or platforms to stand on.
- Ideal for both One-on-One and Group Therapy applications, with the capability to accommodate multiple patients simultaneously.
Patterned Electrical Neuromuscular Stimulation (PENS)
ACP is the only provider of therapeutic devices featuring its patented Patterned Electrical Neuromuscular Stimulation (PENS) technology. This unique electrical stimulation waveform closely replicates the body's normal muscle and nerve firing patterns (based on EMG studies). Research has demonstrated its effectiveness for muscle re-education and treatment of muscle disuse atrophy following trauma, injury, or surgery. ACP's therapeutic PENS devices may be used to assist in the treatment of symptoms of neuromuscular disease, urinary incontinence, stroke, recovery from post-operative joint replacement and other orthopedic diagnoses.
Omnistim® FX2 Pro Patterned Electrical Neuromuscular Stimulation (PENS)
The Omnistim® FX2 Pro is the only device of its kind in the industry, featuring ACP's patented Patterned Electrical Neuromuscular Stimulation (PENS) waveform. PENS closely replicates the body’s normal muscle and nerve firing patterns (based on EMG research) and has been extensively researched for clinical efficacy. The Omnistim® FX2 Pro offers protocol-use recording capabilities, a built-in lead wire/output tester and evidence-based, "condition-driven" operational protocols for ease-of-use and therapist efficiency. The system also includes a unique hand control feature, which allows the therapist (or patient with therapist oversight) to provide "active-assisted stimulation" for functional exercises such as "sit-to-stand" maneuvers.
Omnistim® FX2 Portable for at "Home Use"
The new Omnistim® FX2 Portable enables patients to extend the clinical benefits of electrical stimulation for the management of chronic pain after they have been discharged from their initial therapy program. In some treatment settings, including Outpatient Clinics and Home Health, it may also be recommended as an adjunct therapy used to support an ongoing rehabilitation program. With its "pre-set" operational features, therapists are able to pre-program the unit for simple "at home" patient use. The FX2 Portable’s pain management protocols are achieved using Transcutaneous Electrical Stimulation or "TENS", which stimulates nerves to help block pain messages to the brain. Studies have also shown that TENS may help release of the body's own pain-relieving biochemicals.
In addition to its TENS pain management protocols, the Omnistim® FX2 Portable offers ACP’s "Patterned Electrical Neuromuscular Stimulation" or "PENS" – a patented electrical stimulation waveform that closely replicates the body’s normal muscle and nerve firing pattern for effective pain management and muscle re-education. This effect may be used to assist in the treatment of neuromuscular dysfunction, urinary incontinence, stroke, recovery from post-operative joint replacement and other orthopedic diagnoses. This simple-to-use battery operated device provides gentle electrical stimulation through electrode pads that are placed at or near the affected area. Clinicians provide patients with proper direction on electrode placement, treatment protocols, duration of treatment and general operation.

Electrical Stimulation
Electrical stimulation has been used safely for many decades to help manage pain, relieve muscle spasms, increase range-of-motion, prevent muscle disuse atrophy, increase circulation and re-educate muscles. Gentle electrical stimulation is transmitted through electrode pads placed at or near the affected area to stimulate nerves, which creates muscle contractions and a release of the body's own pain-relieving biochemicals. Electrical stimulation is generally considered to be painless and is well tolerated by most patients.
Omnistim® 500 Pro Electrical Stimulation
ACP’s Omnistim® 500 Pro is a versatile multi-modality electrical stimulation system offering a broad spectrum of therapy options including Full-field Interferential Current (IFC), Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) and Continuous Medium Frequency Nerve Block for effective management of chronic-intractable pain and/or acute post-traumatic pain. The system’s Medium Frequency Alternating Current (MFAC), Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) and Low Voltage Pulsed Current (LVPC) waveforms support neuromuscular re-education and treatment of muscle disuse atrophy. High Voltage Pulsed Current (HVPC) is used for reduction of chronic-intractable pain and/or acute, post-traumatic pain and to increase circulation for tissue healing applications. The Omnistim® 500 Pro also features a protocol-use recording function, a built-in lead wire/output tester and evidence-based, "condition-driven" operational protocols for ease-of-use and therapist efficiency.
Combination Infrared and Electrical Stimulation Therapy
Infrared therapy uses infrared and visible light emitting super luminous diodes (SLD) embedded in flexible neoprene pads which are placed over the treatment area. Infrared therapy may be used to temporarily increase local circulation, relieve stiffness, promote relaxation of muscle tissue and provide temporary relief of minor muscle and joint pain associated with a wide variety of conditions including arthritis, chronic pain, connective tissue dysfunction and neuropathy. Infrared therapy provides mild to moderate thermal effects and is well tolerated by patients. Electrical stimulation may be applied in conjunction with infrared therapy through a probe or using electrodes for pain management.
Electrical stimulation has been used safely for many decades to help manage pain, relieve muscle spasms, increase range-of-motion, prevention of disuse atrophy, increase circulation and re-educate muscles. Electrical stimulation is generally considered painless and is well tolerated by most patients.
Neuroprobe® 500 Pro Infrared and Electrical Stimulation
ACP’s Neuroprobe® 500 Pro is the only device of its kind in the industry with the capability to simultaneously deliver electrical stimulation and infrared therapy. The combination of infrared therapy and two channels of electrical stimulation provide clinicians with superior treatment flexibility and efficient concurrent treatment.
The unit's infrared therapy uses high-power Super Luminous Diodes (SLDs) at 630 and 875 nm to safely apply treatment at higher energy levels. The SLDs are embedded in flexible 5" x 7" neoprene pads for convenient placement. The system’s electrical stimulation capabilities include pre-programmed, evidence-based protocols for Trigger Point Stimulation, Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) and Interferential Current Therapy (IFC). In addition, it offers innovative treatment protocols for Sequential Motor-Sensory Stimulation and Electrical Nerve Block (Wedensky Inhibition). By delivering several established electrical stimulation protocols simultaneously, sensory and motor pain modulation mechanisms are stimulated to produce multiple neurotransmitters for effective pain management.
The combination of these protocols has been extensively published and provides significant improvement over current motor or sensory stimulation when used independently. The Neuroprobe® 500 Pro also features Nerve Block Protocols that produce a direct anesthetic effect for wound debridement and to reduce pain during contracture management. Nerve block is also used to decrease muscle spasm (tone and spasticity) in patients with neurologic contracture and provides effective treatment for chronic pain management.
The Neuroprobe® 500 Pro features pre-programmed, evidence-based protocols for ease-of-use and fully variable parameters for custom programming. An optional remote treatment probe is also available for Trigger Point Stimulation Techniques or "Hyperstimulation" to produce long-lasting analgesia in the treatment of chronic and acute pain.
Therapeutic Ultrasound
Therapeutic Ultrasound has been used by physical therapists for many years. This therapy device creates high frequency sound waves beyond the range of human hearing. The vibration caused by these sound waves when applied to soft tissues, muscles and tendons can create a heating effect to help reduce pain, increase blood flow, increase the extensibility of collagen tissues, decrease joint stiffness and contractures, reduce muscle spasms, and decrease chronic inflammation associated with conditions such as Bursitis and Tendonitis.
By varying the frequency of these vibrations, the depth and the amount of heat generated can be controlled for "thermal" (continuous mode) or "sub-thermal" (pulsed mode) applications depending on the condition being treated. Ultrasound may be used to assist in the treatment of conditions such as tendonitis, muscle spasms, joint stiffness, arthritis, contractures and to improve circulation in the treatment of slow healing wounds. Ultrasound is typically useful for smaller treatment sites and is applied using a round-headed applicator called a transducer that is placed over a transmission gel on the patient's skin. Ultrasound is generally considered painless and is well tolerated by most patients.
Omnisound® 3000 Pro Therapeutic Ultrasound
ACP’s Omnisound® 3000 line is the most extensively researched ultrasound device available and is supported by numerous research articles for superior outcomes and safety. The 3000 Pro offers evidence-based operational protocols and can be used in "Pulsed" or "Continuous Modes" for both thermal and sub-thermal applications. Importantly, it offers an advanced uniform beam with the lowest Beam Non-uniformity Ratio (BNR) and Peak Area of Maximum Beam Non-uniformity Ratio (PAMBNR) in the industry for consistent heating effects and patient comfort. This exceptional beam uniformity supports safer treatment for geriatric patients with reduced muscle mass and sensitive joints. In addition, the system’s patented Delta T Temperature Dose Control Technology insures reproducible dosage for treatment consistency and clinician efficiency. The system includes two different sized transducer heads (2 & 5 cm) that rotate 360 degrees for more effective and efficient treatment. Each of these transducer heads is designed to be used on targeted surface areas and deep tissue with the flexibility of 1 or 3 MHz power options. The Omnisound 3000 Pro also offers a protocol-use recording function to monitor utilization.
Shortwave Diathermy
Pulsed Shortwave Diathermy uses electromagnetic waves to create a heating effect that increases circulation in the body’s tissues. Diathermy has been used for several decades to help reduce pain and inflammation, decrease joint stiffness, relieve muscle spasms and increase local blood flow. Applied to the patient through a large applicator (head or drum), Shortwave Diathermy may be used to assist in the treatment of soft tissue injuries, slow healing wounds and arthritis. Shortwave Diathermy’s mild to vigorous thermal effects may also be used to increase the extensibility of collagen tissues in connective tissue disorders such as scar tissue and contractures. Shortwave Diathermy is generally considered painless and is well tolerated by most patients.

ACP’s Megapulse® II Pulsed Shortwave Diathermy offers demonstrated clinical efficacy and the units are widely recognized as the most reliable and efficient devices in the industry.
Motorized Rehabilitation System
Research shows that therapeutic exercise can help speed recovery. Therapeutic exercises are specific exercises, stretches or other physical activities performed under the guidance of a therapist. The activities help patients regain strength, endurance, balance and flexibility to improve function and recovery. Therapeutic exercises may be recommended as a way to improve recovery after an injury or serious health condition. They may also be used to help improve overall well-being or lower the risk of certain problems such as accidental falls.
ACP’s Omnicycle™ Elite Motorized Rehabilitation System represents the most advanced therapy cycle technology available today. It accommodates post-acute patients who may not typically be able to participate in therapeutic exercises due to lack of strength, coordination, partial paralysis, respiratory limitations and other conditions. By serving a broader range of neuromuscular and orthopedic diagnoses than traditional "resistance" cycles, the Omnicycle™ Elite supports expanded therapy services for neurological rehabilitation (Stroke-CVA), orthopedic rehabilitation (TKA, THA, Shoulder, UE) and cardio-pulmonary rehabilitation (COPD).
Omnicycle™ Elite Motorized Rehabilitation System
This advanced motorized rehabilitation system is designed for the complex needs of post-acute and geriatric patients. It accommodates patients who are unable to use traditional exercise equipment, allowing for earlier therapeutic exercise intervention than traditional cycle systems.
The Omnicycle™ Elite facilitates upper- and lower-extremity exercise in three separate motor-assisted modes: "Assisted" (full motor-assist with a low level of patient participation), "Active-Assist" (partial motor-assist with active patient participation), and "Active" (no motor-assist with full patient participation). The Omnicycle™ Elite automatically shifts between exercise modes as it detects varying levels of patient participation. The system has been designed with a number of special features to accommodate the complex medical needs of aging adults, including direct wheelchair access, heart rate indicator, spasticity detection and voice command emergency "stop." In addition, the Omnicycle™ Elite includes a large color touch screen and interactive Biofeedback function to engage and motivate patients mentally and physically, to improve exercise participation and performance. At the end of each training session, the Omnicycle™ Elite produces a "Training Summary" to track patient progress. This patient summary is printable via an optional wireless Bluetooth® printer, for patient reporting and objective documentation data.

Omnisound® Gel is aqueous, hypo-allergenic, odorless, and non-staining.
Infection Control Products
Infection control is an essential component in all health care delivery systems. Infection control measures can be as simple as hand washing and as sophisticated as high-level disinfection of surgical instruments. Implementing these measures can prevent transmission of disease in health care settings and the community. High-level disinfection procedures are not practical in long-term care facilities due to material safety data issues and time constraints.
ACP’s solution is to lower the contamination risk, thereby lowering the required disinfection level. This is accomplished by using plastic films, covers, and sleeve barriers similar to those used in dental offices. When applied as directed the contamination risk is lowered such that only low-level disinfection procedures need be deployed between patient treatments. Intermediate-level disinfection procedures are recommended at the end of each treatment day and for other certain procedures.
Consistent with our commitment to safety and quality, ACP is the first manufacturer of electrotherapy instruments to offer a full infection control program for its medical devices in full OSHA and CDC compliance.
