ACP Management Team
Accelerated Care Plus (ACP) has assembled a skilled and experienced executive management team with extensive backgrounds in medical device research and development, biomedical engineering, clinical operations and education, physical therapy, healthcare delivery, information technology, finance, sales, marketing and brand development. These individuals include physicians, clinicians, scientists and seasoned executives with established expertise in the development and deployment of the Company’s patented medical equipment and evidence-based clinical programs. ACP’s executive management team is supported by several other key disciplines including medical device engineering, logistics, software programming, information technology and more than 100 licensed clinicians located throughout the U.S. who manage ACP’s programs with partnering facilities.
John Beach — Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Beach has held several executive, board, and leadership roles in the Long Term Care, Medical Device, Medical Supply and Rehabilitation Industries over a two decade period. He has also founded, and successfully managed a number of successful healthcare related corporations during that period including North Valley Distribution, Encore Medical Technologies and ACP, which he co-founded in 1995. As a consultant, Mr. Beach has partnered with several of nations largest healthcare providers on marketing, reimbursement, ancillary charge capture and rehabilitation program development. Mr. Beach has a Bachelor of Science degree from Cal State University Chico in Business Marketing and Clinical Bio Psychology.
John C. Castel, Ph.D. — Chief Technology Officer
Dr. Castel has extensive experience in the development of medical device technologies, physical rehabilitation services, and clinical operations. He has owned and operated a number of medical technology companies including Neuromed Inc., OMNI International Inc., Physio Technology Inc. and ACP, which he co-founded in 1995. As a recognized expert in physical medicine and the use of physical agent modalities for geriatric rehabilitation, Dr. Castel has been extensively published and is an internationally recognized lecturer. Dr. Castel holds numerous patents in the fields of electrotherapy, laser biostimulation and therapeutic ultrasound. His doctorate thesis on "Managing Urinary Incontinence Using Electrotherapy" was recently published by Showa University in Tokyo, Japan where he holds a Doctorate in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in Medical Research. In 1984 he received an Honorary Doctorate for outstanding research contributions in the Laser Biostimulation field. Dr. Castel has also been awarded The Philips Electronics "Young Scientist of the Year" award, the "Canadian Association of Physicists Award" and the "Youth Science Foundation Award" for the development of new laser technologies.
Francis X. Palermo, MD, MPH — Medical Director
Dr. Palermo is a board certified specialist in Physical Medicine, Rehabilitation and Electro-diagnostic Medicine. He has conducted extensive research in geriatric rehabilitation and developed the technology surrounding ACP's patented Omnistim® FX2 "Patterned Electrical Neuromuscular Stimulator." Dr. Palermo has developed numerous rehabilitation programs around this technology, including those focused specifically on coordination, strength and endurance. He has been a consultant to NASA and several U.S. Olympic Training Centers using ACP's equipment and protocols. Dr. Palermo is the former Director of Rehab for the Washoe County Medical System Rehabilitation Hospital in Reno, NV and was a board member/founder of the Gaylord-Yale New Haven Rehabilitation Center and the Neurological Rehabilitation Institute in New Haven, CT. He also initiated the Gaylord-Yale Neurology Residency Program and the Gaylord Rehabilitation Research Institute. Dr. Palermo graduated from the US Air Force Academy in 1968, received his MBA from TCU in 1972 and his MPH in Health Economics from Oklahoma University in 1975. He received his MD from Tufts University in 1979. Dr. Palermo has been listed among "The Best Doctors in America" since 1996.
Debbie Koepsel — Chief Operating Officer
Ms. Koepsel has held several executive management and operations positions in the Long Term Care Industry over a 25 year period. She has extensive experience in geriatric rehabilitation with an emphasis in operations and effective practice management. As a physical therapist, she practiced in several treatment settings including geriatric rehabilitation, acute care, pediatrics, outpatient services and home health. From 1991-1998, Ms. Koepsel was Region Vice President for SunDance Rehabilitation Corporation, a division of Sun Healthcare Group overseeing rehab operations, where she received several awards for outstanding operational performance, growth and customer retention. From 1998-2001, she was the President of Community Care, overseeing the company's three nursing homes, rehab division, home health agency and hospital. Ms. Koepsel earned her first degree at the University of Arizona in 1981 and her second degree in Physical Therapy from Northern Arizona University in 1984.
Antony Ricketts — Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Ricketts has extensive executive management experience having held CFO, COO and CEO positions in a diverse range of industries from healthcare to aerospace. After graduating from the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom with an Honors Degree in Physics, Mr. Ricketts trained with Ernst & Young for 5 years working in both audit and consultancy. Mr. Ricketts then joined a major UK public limited company and held senior financial, operational and leadership roles within several of the organization's global subsidiaries. In 1999 he moved to the US and operated as the General Manager of a manufacturing business and later relocated to Reno to become CFO and COO of an aerospace distribution company. Prior to joining ACP, Mr. Ricketts served as CEO for a global manufacturer and distributor of aerospace products where he led six business units with operations throughout the US, Europe and Asia. For the past 20 years, Mr. Ricketts has been a Chartered Accountant and a Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
Richard Taylor — Chief Sales Officer
Mr. Taylor has a broad background in financial analysis, forecasting, strategic analysis and sales covering a 23 year period. After overseeing ACP's general operations over a four year period, Mr. Taylor assumed the role of Chief Sales Officer in 2007. Prior to ACP, he held financial and risk management posts over a 16 year period with ConocoPhillips. Most recently he was Director of Risk Management and Financial Analysis-Downstream Commercial Operations overseeing all trading activities for crude oil supply and refined products distribution including Strategic Planning, VaR portfolio analysis, forecasting and budget preparation. Additional responsibilities included M&A due diligence, FTC reviews and approvals on both domestic and international transactions during a 10+ year period of aggressive takeover activities, including asset acquisitions from ExxonMobil, BP, Royal Dutch Shell, and Union 76. In addition to this experience, Mr. Taylor has also provided guidance on FAS 133 pronouncement on derivative accounting rules. Mr. Taylor holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration (Accounting) from California State University, Chico.
Tony Taylor — Chief Marketing Officer
Mr. Taylor brings over 25 years of experience in marketing, sales, product development, brand management, integrated communications, advertising, new media, promotions and P.R. to ACP. He has held executive management positions with several international ad agencies including Euro-RSCG, Saatchi & Saatchi and Bates Worldwide. Mr. Taylor has also held corporate marketing positions and served as a brand consultant in the healthcare, technology, automotive, entertainment, publishing, retail and packaged goods categories. In these roles, Mr. Taylor was actively involved in the development and revitalization of several highly recognized brands including Toyota, Volvo, Hyundai, Wham-O Toys, and Starbucks. In addition to his marketing background, Mr. Taylor has managed key business units including information services, human relations and finance. He is a published writer and has been a guest speaker on advertising, marketing and sales related topics at several universities and industry events. Mr. Taylor earned a BS Degree in Advertising and Marketing from San Jose State University in 1984.
